Selectors are used to indicate which parts of a page or document a particular rule or set of rules apply to. If the selector is a single element like div, p or span the rules will apply to all divs, ps and spans in the document.

  • For example, the following rules will apply to the font in all divs in the document, except in cases where more specific selectors override these general rules:

  font-family: sans-serif;
  font-size: 14pt;
